Zoya Artisanal Rugs

A Cape Town Rug Studio, woven across continents.

From India to Nepal, Morocco to Iran.

A shared respect for craft.

Zoya is shaped by a deep respect for traditional weaving, natural materials and the details that make each piece distinctive. Founded in Cape Town in 2009 by husband and wife, Pedro and Leah, Zoya grew from a shared belief in creating rugs with texture, character and thoughtful design.

For Pedro, rugs were never simply a profession. He grew up in a family involved in rug production and wholesale, where an understanding of weaving and textiles was part of everyday life. That heritage became one of the foundations of Zoya and continues to inform the way we work today.

A more considered approach.

When Zoya began, the market was largely divided between premium handmade rugs and machine-made alternatives. We saw an opportunity to create something different: rugs that combine the character and feel of traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary design perspective.

What began with requests for custom pieces and variations on existing designs gradually evolved into a deeper involvement in weaving, materials and production. By working closely with our production partners, we have been able to develop collections that balance texture, quality and thoughtful design, while remaining accessible to a wider range of interiors.

Across continents.

Our work has taken us from Cape Town to weaving communities across India, Nepal, Morocco and Iran. Over the years, these places have become an important part of Zoya, shaping our understanding of materials, techniques and the people behind them.

We work closely with our partners on the ground, developing designs, refining materials and bringing ideas from the studio to the loom. The result is a collection that brings together different weaving traditions with a contemporary South African point of view.

Rooted in Cape Town, Zoya rugs now find their way into homes and projects around the world.

Always discovering.

Our work continues to evolve. There is always something new to learn, refine and explore, from materials and colour to techniques and design.

Looking ahead, our focus remains on developing thoughtfully considered collections, supporting the knowledge and skills behind traditional weaving, and exploring opportunities to contribute to the future of craft, including initiatives within South Africa.

We are interested in what happens when traditional knowledge meets contemporary design, and in creating pieces that feel relevant today while retaining a sense of permanence.

Considered service, from studio to home.

For us, the experience extends beyond choosing a rug.

We offer a personal and professional service, taking the time to understand each client's space, requirements and vision. From helping select the right piece to bespoke design, delivery, installation and aftercare, every detail is considered.

Whether working with a homeowner, interior designer or architect, we believe good service is about expertise, responsiveness and genuine care.

From our studio to your home, we are here to make the process as considered as the rug itself.
